 Staff Development Learning Day. Term 2

Our Staff Development Learning Day focused on continuing to enhance teachers' capacity to teach writing effectively and aligning whole-school practices to foster consistency and excellence. Through collaborative, team-based practices, teachers engaged in reflection around the use of the Assessment Waterfall Chart, and shared strategies to support student success.

Key highlights included:

  • Individual Reflection: Teachers reflected upon their own current practices and engagement with the Assessment Waterfall. They considered each of the elements and through this created their own professional goals going forward.

  • Team Reflection: Professional learning teams also spent time reflecting on their practises and use of the Assessment Waterfall, planning and setting goals for the weeks ahead. The importance of teams working together to align practices is of utmost importance. 


  • The Third Teacher: The role of the physical and social environment in supporting student learning was revisited, emphasizing its impact on writing development. Teachers engaged in dialogue around the need for students to know and consistently demonstrate how to use the learning walls.

  • Understanding the roles of Data Walls and Bump It Up Walls: Shared conversation was had to understand the difference and similarity between the two.

  • New Data Wall conversation: Staff shared their thinking on the importance of creating a new data wall, and the need for aligning it with the English syllabus, and the Learning Progressions.In alignment with our SAIP, staff decided upon a data wall which would be progress and develop with a focus on sentence structure.Staff spent some time discussing a proposal for the Data Wall, and pondered was there a more simplified way to create the Data Wall.



This day of collaboration reinforced the importance of shared practices and reflective teaching, equipping educators with tools to inspire confident, capable writers.
